Scared of a little violence, bub? Well, there’s plenty of it in issue #1 of the new Marvel Comic Series Wolverine: Revenge. Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by the legendary Greg Capullo, this issue marks an exciting new chapter for Wolverine.
This week, I picked up the red band version of the comic, which features significantly more blood compared to the standard issue. Let me tell you—I was thoroughly entertained. There are two main covers for this issue, and I’ll be showcasing both in the post: the bloodier red-band version and the more tame standard edition.
As someone who isn’t deeply familiar with X-Men comics, I found this issue to be very accessible. The visual storytelling and dialogue ensure that you don’t need to have read dozens of previous books to grasp what’s happening. Hickman and Capullo are incredibly talented, and it’s obvious in every panel.
After seeing Deadpool and Wolverine on screen last week, I’ve been loving the recent Wolverine and X-Men comic stories. Wolverine: Revenge is no exception.
I went into this issue knowing very little about the story—I hadn’t even read the solicitations—but I picked it up because Hickman and Capullo were on my pull list at my local comic shop. Without giving too much away, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of significant Marvel characters that appeared. By page 4, hundreds of millions of people are already dead, and the explosive ending has guaranteed that I’ll be back at the comic shop next month.
I highly recommend this issue to anyone looking for a fun Wolverine comic
