Ultimate X-Men #7 Review

Ultimate X-Men #7 Review

Happy Comic Book Wednesday, everyone! This week, we’ve got some exciting releases, starting with Ultimate X-Men #7!

Warning – Minor spoilers ahead

I previously wrote a review for issues #1-6 (Arc 1), so if you haven’t had the chance to read it, check it out here. Issue #7 kicks off the second arc and begins to tie into the broader Ultimate universe with some truly exciting reveals!

We’re finally seeing more of the “Children of the Atom” in action, along with a behind-the-scenes look at efforts to control the X-gene. The scenes involving the Children of X are eerie, almost cult-like, and visually distinct from the rest of the issue and series. I believe this is the first time it’s mentioned that Sunfire is overseeing territory for the Maker. I’ll need to catch up on Ultimates to see if he plays a larger role in the Ultimate Universe.

We’re also introduced to Psylocke (Kanon) in this issue! The X-family is starting to fill out, and I’m all for it. Momoko’s character dialogue is always entertaining, and watching Kanon and her brother discover a suspicious piece of luggage—only to be silenced by the Children of the Atom—sets up some intriguing plotlines that I can’t wait to see unfold.

We also get a deeper dive into Japanese culture with the Jugoya Matsuri (Full Moon Harvest Festival), which provides some beautiful pages and fun banter between Mei and Hisako. The issue ends with a wild scene that I’m excited to see explored in the next installment!

Peach Momoko is absolutely on fire with this series, and the hardest part is waiting for each new issue. Arc 2 is off to a strong start, and you can bet I’ll be picking up Ultimate X-Men #8!
