The Rocketfellers #1 – Review

New Week, New Stories from Ghost Machine!

It’s an exciting week for Image Comics and the Ghost Machine team as Rocketfellers #1 hits shelves today! Ghost Machine has delivered a stellar lineup of comics this year, so expectations were sky-high—and this issue absolutely delivers.

Written by Peter J. Tomasi, Rocketfellers #1 stands out as the first Ghost Machine title without Geoff Johns’ involvement, and it’s a delightful surprise. I went into this issue knowing very little about the series, but it quickly became one of the highlights of my weekly reading stack.

The story follows a time-traveling family on the run, and the Rocketfellers are anything but ordinary. Originally hailing from 400 years in the future, the family escapes to 2024 while evading a mysterious villain whose motives remain unclear. Despite the lack of information about the antagonist, the stakes feel high, thanks to the strong emotional beats woven into the narrative.

Each family member is distinct, with unique mannerisms and personalities that make them instantly likable. The family dynamics are portrayed beautifully, striking a balance between humor, heart, and tension. There are some genuinely funny moments as futuristic technology from the 25th-century clashes with the quirks of 2024. Roland and Rachel juggling the impossible tasks of keeping their family safe, guarding secrets, and staying united in the face of danger.

This issue is a visual masterpiece. Francis Manapul’s artwork is stunning, breathing life into every panel. The characters are richly detailed, and the visuals are full of depth and texture.

Rocketfellers #1 is an excellent debut issue and a series worth keeping an eye on. The premise is intriguing, the execution is top-notch, and I’m already hooked. I can’t wait to see what Tomasi has in store for us in issue #2, which is set to release next month!
