There are two words to describe this epic issue: holy s***
Spoilers Ahead!
Absolute Wonder Woman #4 delivers action-packed, witchcraft-fueled, kaiju-fighting, massive-sword-wielding comic perfection. Arc One alternates between present-day Gateway City, which is getting invaded by a giant monster, and Hell, creating a narrative that is as unbelievable as it is surreal.
The past three issues established Diana’s formidable foe and provided rich backstory. Now, we’ve reached the tipping point. Remember Diana losing her arm? How does one repair a missing limb? By summoning the power of Hecate, channeling ancient magic, and spilling a whole lot of blood. The ritual scene in this issue is absolutely nuts, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Wonder Woman’s ties to the pantheon of gods have always been a core aspect of her character, but this moment elevates her mythic status. Honestly, it deserves a live-action adaptation—it was that cool.

But the issue isn’t all about high-stakes godly power. Watching Diana interact with regular people is delightful. The scenes with Eta and Gia Candy meeting Wonder Woman alongside Steve Trevor are humorous yet profound. Every character played an important part, whether it’s helping find herbs to make potions or warning people of what’s to come. Not a character is wasted, and each one benefits the story.

And then there are the battle scenes. Kelly Thompson and the art team absolutely delivered here. Watching Diana summon a skyscraper-sized blade to slice through a kaiju’s neck? Immaculate. Every panel is packed with intensity, showcasing Diana as both a warrior and a goddess.
Kelly Thompson deserves a lot of praise for this phenomenal issue, but it’s made also possible by the talented Hayden Sherman and Jordie Bellaire. They do such an amazing job bringing the world and characters alive. You can see the emotion on the characters, their presence. So kudos to everyone.

With Arc One wrapping up next month in Absolute Wonder Woman #5, I’m beyond ready for more. Kelly Thompson is absolutely cooking with this series, and I can’t wait for more!!!
