G.I. Joe #3 rolls into shops this week, continuing the bombastic series and taking it to even more exciting places!
After two action-packed issues, this issue slows the pace slightly, but there’s still plenty of suspense and high-stakes action to stay entertained. Each issue so far has ended with a shocking final page, and this one is no exception.
The story picks up right where issue #2 left off, plunging us directly into the tense atmosphere of a top-secret Cobra base. You can really feel the tension as Clutch tries to stay cool while navigating the dangers of Cobra. If you’ve read the previous miniseries about Cobra Commander and Destro, you’ll appreciate how much more menacing they feel here. While the story stands well on its own, having that extra backstory heightens the stakes. There’s one standout scene where Cobra Commander brutally silences a dissenter by crushing the man’s mouth with a single hand—a gruesome, yet perfectly in-character moment for him.

This issue excels in its pacing, striking a perfect rhythm between slower, suspenseful moments and bursts of action. Not once did I feel lost or bored; everything flows brilliantly from page to page.
Watching the Joes grow more familiar with each other (or, in some cases, clash and brawl) is both fun and emotionally engaging. Even with the major losses the team has suffered in previous issues, their mission objective remains clear, and the story never loses focus.

As I’ve said before, the artwork by Tom Reilly and colors by Jodie Bellaire are fantastic! While the coloring in this issue feels slightly different compared to the earlier ones, it’s in no way a downgrade. The visuals continue to elevate the tension and action beautifully.
Overall, I loved issue #3 and am hooked. The combination of the Joes, Cobra, and the Energon Universe is a comic book fan’s dream come true. I can’t wait for issue #4 next month!
