2025 is already shaping up to be absolutely super with Absolute Superman #3!
With all the Absolute titles now reaching their third issue, Absolute Superman feels like the one I connect with the most so far. Perhaps it’s because Krypton is portrayed as a dying planet brought to its knees by the greed of the elite, or maybe it’s the story of a suppressed working class fighting for survival. Either way, this modern take on Superman feels strikingly relevant and deeply relatable.
In my review of Absolute Superman #2, I mentioned wanting to spend more time on Krypton. Well, my wish came true! This issue devotes nearly all its pages to life on Krypton, and every panel is a visual feast. While the pacing is a slow burn, it keeps you glued to the page. Every moment is charged with tension, as the impending doom of Krypton looms ever closer. Watching Lara and Jor-El grapple with their planet’s fate while ensuring their son has a chance at a brighter future is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Jason Aaron’s storytelling shines here, offering a glimpse into the sacrifices and determination of Superman’s parents.
And let’s talk about the visuals—wow! This issue delivers some truly epic battle scenes with Lara, and I’m absolutely in love with the suit designs. Rafa Sandoval outdoes himself yet again, elevating an already incredible story with his stunning art. Every page is brimming with dynamic energy, intricate details, and a style that perfectly complements the writing.
Jason Aaron takes everything iconic about Superman and modernizes it for today’s world. As we pass the halfway mark of this first story arc, it’s clear that this is shaping up to be a phenomenal narrative. I’m beyond excited to see where this series goes next—and I can’t wait to dive into more Absolute titles.
