‘Tis the Season to Read Some Absolute Superman!
Absolute Superman #1 revamped the Superman mythos in a big way, and issue #2 continues that trend with strong storytelling! This issue introduces Lois Lane to Kal-El’s sentient suit, Sol, and it made for a fantastic start to my comic book Wednesday.
We get a glimpse of life on Krypton as well as Kal-El’s early days on Earth. Krypton’s design and the society depicted here are so fascinating that I’d love to see a story focused solely on life there (and who knows, maybe one already exists!).
I recently listened to the AIPT Comics podcast featuring Jason Aaron, and he confirmed that we’ll be getting quite a bit more Krypton! It sounds like it’s going to be a well-paced slow burn. While we already know the ultimate fate of Krypton, at least we’ll have the chance to savor the journey.
While Lois Lane technically made her debut in issue #1, this is her first proper appearance, and I’m absolutely loving this fresh take on her character. As a soldier for Lazarus and initially an antagonist to Kal-El, she feels bold and revitalized. Watching Lois slowly come to understand Kal-El was excellent, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship and the larger dynamics play out.
Superman may be a juggernaut of strength, but in this new universe with new rules, the Lazarus soldiers are no pushovers—they came prepared to fight. The action sequences are intense, and seeing Kal’s suit literally come alive and fight back was nothing short of brilliant.
Rafa Sandoval delivers another stellar issue with breathtaking artwork and a gorgeous cover.
DC has been dropping A+ titles in the Absolute line, and Absolute Superman is no exception. If you haven’t already picked up issues #1 and #2, now’s the time to jump in!
