Happy Friday everyone! Another week, more comics to add to my backlog. Luckily, I did get the chance to read Wolverine Revenge #2: Red Band Edition!
If you haven’t had the chance yet, check out my review for issue #1.
Spoilers Ahead
How’s Wolverine after the explosive ending of issue #1? Fully healed and ready to go on a revenge-fueled murder spree! With only five issues in this mini-series, Wolverine is on the hunt for the killers of Captain America and Bucky.
The issue opens with Captain America’s funeral, and these are likely the only two serious pages before the focus shifts fully to Wolverine’s mission. With no power left on Earth and most of its heroes dead, hope for this world is all but gone.
Capullo delivers another fantastic job with the art, making this post-apocalyptic world absolutely insane, from 100-foot tall bears to a badass, bloody battle that’s well worth the extra dollar for the Red Band Edition. The last few pages surprised me with just how brutal and bloody the action scenes became—I honestly wish Marvel gave us more options like this.
Hickman also nails the pacing in this issue. It’s certainly not heavy on story, but let’s be honest, we’re all here for some badass Wolverine content, and that’s exactly what he delivers. I loved the addition of fun characters like Forge and Dani Moonstar, and there were some solid laughs, especially when everyone starts complaining about how they can’t stand Deadpool.
As the title suggests, this is a revenge story, and so far, it’s shaping up to be great! While this issue may not hit quite as hard as #1, it still packs a punch with its intense action and brutal fight scenes, leaving you far from disappointed. As always, I’m excited for the next issue and can’t wait to share my thoughts next month!
