Geiger #1-6 (2024) Review

Beware the glowing man! Geoff Johns and the team at Ghost Machine Pro have crafted an incredible post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout story that takes readers on an unforgettable journey.

Issue #6 was released this week, so I took the opportunity to reread issues #1-6, and wow—this series is something special. Geiger was first introduced in a 2021 miniseries, the debut comic series set in the Unnamed Universe. It was a fantastic read, and while you don’t have to read it before diving into this ongoing series, I’d definitely recommend it.

Geoff Johns has always been a favorite of mine (his Aquaman run is one of my top comic reads ever), and he doesn’t disappoint here. The story follows Tariq Geiger, his loyal dog Barney, and Nate the Knight as they explore a ravaged America, post-nuclear war. Even with just six issues so far, the character development and world-building is immersive and emotionally gripping.

And the art! Gary Frank and Brad Anderson deliver an absolute masterclass—every page is a visual feast. The grotesque creatures, the eerie organ people, and the nuclear wasteland are all brilliantly drawn, adding to the story.

One of my favorite touches is the character biographies at the end of each issue, which provide extra depth and context for the new characters as they’re introduced.

The Unnamed Universe may still be expanding, but Geiger does a great job tying in existing characters like Junkyard Joe, one of my favorite comics of 2023!

Geiger is an exhilarating read, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves post-apocalyptic adventures, compelling characters, or stunning artwork. Whether you’re a fan of Fallout or just love seeing characters kick ass in a beautifully detailed world, you won’t be disappointed.
